The production on the first half of this track does use many of the common sounds we hear in rap today, such as heavy bass, and trap inspired percussion, but easily sounds like something that could have been used as an earlier instrumental of KendrickвЂ™s. immediately answered my question of whether this album would be a complete flop or not, beginning with the same style of flow we have heard from Kendrick in the past, while still maintaining a new freshness to it. This sample is abruptly, and furiously interrupted by the next track DNA., while still maintaining a tasteful transition from BLOOD. Immediately following is a sample of Fox NewsвЂ™ infamous report on KendrickвЂ™s performance of Alright at the BET awards, notoriously misquoting the lyrics of the song. The song has a psychedelic chorus sprinkled here and there, with the main focus of this track being KendrickвЂ™s encounter with a blind woman, who represents the consequences leading to Damnation. now released, I would say that the comparison of these singles is still valid, it still doesnвЂ™t make sense within the context of the album because of both the poor flow it has from the previous track PRIDE., and the still negligible contribution that these lyrics have to this LP.ДЄs you can imagine, during the first rather short, quiet expositional track BLOOD., I was overcame with the feeling of suspense on whether or not this LP would be KendrickвЂ™s first truly bad album. Now, many predicted this single would be similar to the previous singles Backstreet Freestyle and i, in that their sound would make more sense within the context of the album. as a single, and had really lowered my expectations I previously held for DAMN. ItвЂ™s fine that the album would not be going into a direction I had previously thought, but I was significantly disappointed when I first heard HUMBLE.

This tedious hook is where I get the only modicum of meaning from this track, where I believe he is mocking the racist tendency some people have of saying вЂњYou arenвЂ™t oppressed on the institutional level nor the individual level, so sit down, shut up, and be thankful for the rights you have.вЂќ. When Kendrick isnвЂ™t doing that, heвЂ™s repeating the annoying hook вЂњSit down / Be humbleвЂќ for half of the damn track.

KendrickвЂ™s lyrics on this track also indulge in many of the rap stereotypes that he had previously disproven with his previous works, seemingly rapping about only women and money. The percussion on this track took me especially off-guard, sounding similar to the trap influences heard in much of popular rap production. begins with several strums of a rhythmic, gainy, heavily blues-rock inspired chord, leading into an equally heavy piano riff. However, with the release of DAMN.вЂ™s first single HUMBLE., it became evident that Kendrick was indeed not furthering his experimentation with that type of production, and moving towards an album reminiscent to his first release and recently gold certified Section.80 and some of his earlier mixtapes. вЂњThe Heart Part IVвЂќ led me to believe that in the then untitled DAMN., Kendrick would continue further down the path of the jazz and funk production heard on his third LP, To Pimp a Butterfly an album which I donвЂ™t want to elaborate on too much in this review, but I will say that Kendrick will need to do a lot to live up to the previous standards of both that album, and his sophomore effort, good kid, m.A.A.d. In the promo track for this LP, вЂњThe Heart Part IVвЂќ the usually humble MC even proclaimed вЂњ 1-2-3-4-5/ I am the greatest rapper alive!вЂќ a line that would traditionally be laughed off as cheesy or uninspired, just works perfectly for the purpose of the song because at least in my opinion, he truly is the best rapper in the game.
